Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on the skill of taking an opponent to the ground, controlling one’s opponent, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds.

The Founding Students with Sensei Tom

Sensei Tom trained in several martial arts over the past 30 years. He started boxing when he was 8, Tae Kwon Do when he was 12 and Japanese karate. By the time Tom was 17 or 18, he had studied several different styles winning medals in his division. Tom achieved a third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and trained in several different styles of Kung Fu. Tom was the co-owner of the Shaolin Hung Gar Kung Fu center in Nyack New York and reached master level in Kung Fu and had a school for approximately 6 years.

Sensei Tom has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for the past 14 years. He is a second degree black belt and is certified by the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation. Sensei Tom has now opened up Iron Guard BJJ & Kung Fu in Pine Bush, NY and welcomes all students at all levels.
